A quick guide to stories in wide circulation that just aren't true. Don't get caught spreading these lies! These are trying times for the church -- if you believe everything you read. According to fliers circulating through area churches in recent years, the church is under attack as never before:.

Is graniteville staten island safe

These stories are shocking, outrageous -- and completely false. They are examples of hoaxes which continue to circulate in the church, even though there is no credible evidence to support them. Despite efforts by responsible church leaders to expose these stories for the lies that they are, the rumors have taken on a life of their own and refuse to die.

Christian journalists have a special obligation to be aware of these hoaxes so we can avoid passing them on to readers who trust us. The best-known example of this kind of hoax is the non-existent Madalyn Murray O'Hair petition to ban all religious broadcasting.

You've probably been exposed to this hoax through it's most common form: a photocopied petition, warning "Madalyn Murray O'Hair, an atheist, whose efforts successfully eliminated the use of Bible reading and prayer from all public schools fifteen years ago, has been granted a federal hearing in Washington, D. The petition, R. Madalyn is also campaigning to remove all Christmas programs, Christmas songs and Christmas carols from public schools.

The often-photocopied form says that one million signed petitions are needed, and that "This should defeat Mrs. O'Hair and show that there are many Christians alive and well and concerned in our country. The hoax has generated enough response that -- at least at one point -- the FCC had "religious petition" as one of the options you could select with your touch-tone phone when calling the agency's consumer switchboard.

That triggers a recorded message declaring that the "rumors are absolutely false. FCC spokesperson Maureen Peratino says that despite repeated efforts to kill the rumor, it remains alive and well.

We don't see any let up in the phone calls either. Our consumer assistance office handles anywhere from to phone calls a month on this. Not only isn't there a petition to ban religious broadcasting, but no such petition would have a chance of succeeding, says Peratino. Like many rumors, the FCC hoax has a tiny kernel of truth.

Once upon a time, there really was an FCC petition Presented to the FCC in December, the petition by California men Jeremy Lansman and Lorenzo Milam, asked the FCC to temporarily freeze the awarding of TV and FM channels to religious and government institutions while it studied whether existing non-commercial stations were fulfilling their obligations to broadcast truly educational programming.

Their petition was denied nine months later. Richard Wiley, now a Washington, D. There's never been anything since then. There was never any truth to this, and I don't think the current commission would see religion as not being part of the public interest, which would be the issue. We reprinted it with his permission. In fact, my entire Saturday was an attempt to explore something for my mom and my aunt. It ended up being a situation where I have no choice but to say I experienced a pure miracle of God.

Healing Oil. Whoever heard of a Bible Leaking Oil?

I, a journalist, a seeker of truth, a debunker of lies, have to admit that I have experienced something of God that I cannot explain in any other way than to say it hits the dictionary definition of a miracle.

L et me start at the beginning. This is the Bible that flows with oil inside a container at a church in Dawsonville, Georgia.

I took the photo before a service on Saturday October 21, Last Thursday my mother sent me a few links to a story that she had been told about by her sister, my aunt. The story was about a Bible that belonged to man in Georgia that in January began to drip oil. The Bible was connected with a group of believers who have a prayer room in the back of a Christian gift shop…and that prayer room was supposed to have oil running down the walls.

My mother and my aunt are both believers in God, so they were open to the idea that something like this could happen was not something they would immediately deny. However, they also have seen over the years many different charlatans that try to take advantage of people of faith with scams…like a Bible that drips with oil.

He likes to spend his Saturdays in his Prius driving hundreds of miles to take pictures. He would probably be more than happy to go check this out. Yes, I am a Christian, as long time readers of this blog know. When I get the chance to expose those people, I leap at it.

Claims that a Bible in Dalton is flowing with oil undermined by new information

So, with the faith and hope it was real but the knowledge that I could be walking into a con game, I took off Saturday morning after a very bizarre dream the night before that I will share later for Douglasville, Georgia to see this Bible that apparently flows with oil. Dalton is the home of Gracethe gift shop where the healing oil is alleged to flow down the walls of their prayer room.

I thought that I might as well stop there and check out the prayer room if they were open on Saturday. I arrived at the shop to find it dark. After a quick glance at the records showed they were horrendously over-priced, I fled back to the parking lot with the intent of heading further south.

I called. Susan, the owner, had just opened up the store for a repairman who is fixing their floor. I realized that involuntarily took a huge, deep breath when I walked in. It felt nice. The shop itself is very interesting. They have a wide variety of hand-made Christian subject paintings and crafts. Plenty of paintings of scriptures with what appears to be reclaimed barnwood used as the frames. Susan the owner went in and turned on the lights and invited me to spend as much time in the room as I wished to spend. The first analysis, beginning on page 1, was performed by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and is of the oil the ministry claimed had been flowing from its Bible.

The second analysis, located on page 4 and conducted by the same lab, compares the ministry's Bible oil to the Ideal brand of mineral oil sold at Tractor Supply Co. Updated at a. The group stopped distributing oil on Feb. Chemical analysis tests gathered by the Times Free Press challenge the basis of a popular Dalton, Georgia, ministry that claims to have a Bible flowing with oil. Those who gather described deep religious experiences when the oil Bible touched them.

Others said the oil cured them of sickness or helped them kick addictions. Through donations, Pearce and Johnny Taylor, the other leader of His Name is Flowing Oil, have made a full-time job of traveling the country with the Bible, estimating they have handed out aroundfree vials of the oil.

The Times Free Press wrote about the increasingly popular gathering in November The next day, someone contacted the newspaper saying Pearce was a regular customer at the Tractor Supply store in Dalton. The person said Pearce often bought large amounts of mineral oil — a clear oil similar in appearance to the oil Pearce claims is coming from his Bible. In Decembertwo Dalton Tractor Supply managers visually identified Pearce and said he consistently bought gallons of mineral oil.

However, company policies barred them from providing more specific customer information. The Times Free Press then paid for a series of chemical analyses by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, comparing samples of the oil Pearce hands out with the chemical structure of mineral oil and comparing Pearce's oil with the Ideal brand mineral oil sold at Tractor Supply.

The tests found Pearce's oil is petroleum-derived and the results "strongly suggest that the oil sample is mineral oil," according to the analysis.

The second test, comparing the chemical composition of Pearce's oil to the product sold at Tractor Supply, found a nearly exact match. Pearce said the managers at Tractor Supply are lying. He and Taylor repeated they do not have to defend their work, something they said in November. Online, people remain polarized about the ministry, with some calling it a hoax and others praising the results they got from using the oil.

The ministry began in in the week after President Donald Trump's inauguration when Pearce and Taylor had powerful religious experiences and oil began coming from the Bible, they said. In the three years since, the two men traveled thousands of miles with the book, even taking it to Canada.

See this article I came across just a couple hours after I published this! Why do I think this just may be legitimate? One, If it were a hoax, as scam or a scheme of Satanpeople from all over the world would have been flocking like seagulls on a piece of bread laying on the beach! Take for instance the fake and false Laughing Revival! Thousands fell for that Satanic Manifestation and it spread like wildfire! I saw first hand some of the fools who went and came back demon possessed!

Two, it has been 18 months and little attention has been given to it. Have a Prayer Meeting and only a few show up. You have an eat meeting or show the Superbowl in the church house and most will show up bringing their family, friends and neighbors!! If you go to the store to buy Meat, don't run to the Milk section or the Junk Food aisle looking for it.

The Milk Section is likened to those who will not preach on sin and Helljust a feel good message.

The Junk Food Isle is the outright false doctrine AKA the prosperity gospel, name it and claim it, the Hebraic Roots movement and other false teachings!!

Feasting on just Milk and Junk will eventually cause you great harm! Satan will quench the things of God and worldly things will go Viral! I had to remove it due to disturbing info that came to light about the author HE quoted. The l inks to her website and the article were in the quotes, but she contacted me about Copyright Infringement. I was going to edit the article giving HER proper credit. I did a little investigating on her website as we emailed back and forth.

Always check to make sure what you are learning from someone Jives with Scripture! And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more.

And the oil stayed. Watch this and make your own determination! This Ministry is not only under attack by the Secular Scum, we are now under attack from supposed Christians also. I went there myself to see this miracle. I then met the owner of the bible and he gave me the full run down on the history and some other testimonies of people who have tried it.

A Bible Dripping with Oil

I took a few pictures of what I was seeing:. So I have been unable to remove it. I asked the man to start the process he used with the oil on me. He put his hand in the oil and then ran it across my forehead to give me an anointing. He then stated that my prayers for healing would be answered so I prayed for healing of the scar. I also applied some of the oil to the scar. Over the next couple weeks, the oil progressed through the Bible, saturating it from Psalm 39 through Revelation.

The oil then appeared in Genesis 1 and continued through the Old Testament back to Psalm 39, saturating the entire Bible. It was then moved to a series of plastic containers where it continues to flow out slowly. This is video that I found that did a decent job of getting some details.

Like Liked by 2 people. Still there. I will try more prayer and oil to see if it works. It may be to early to come to a conclusion.
